Engineer For A Day
An event organized by ASCE-YMF

(American Society of Civil Engineers - Younger Members Forum)

ASCE-YMF Member Rachel Andre, looks on as high school students watch an index card and paper clip tower hold 10 FDOT Specification Books, two folders and a Toaster. The students wanted to load the building until it failed and they were running out of objects, so they had to use a toaster. This tower came in second place, as it cost more to build it then another tower that held the same amount of weight.

This event was held on February 20, 2004 at the FDOT offices on Semoran Boulevard in the morning (approximately 140 students from eleven high schools attended). The students then went to various local engineering firms where they had lunch with practicing engineers and then spent the rest of the day shadowing them to get a better idea of what engineers do.

Share Your Christmas food driveGEC has been involved with WESH Channel 2’s Share Your Christmas Community Food Drive since 1994. Both the Salvation Army and Second Harvest Food Bank have been recipients of our efforts.

We worked hard to help the Sales Tax for Orange County Public Schools pass so that we might help ensure quality environments for our public school kids in Orange County.
